Runners that are taking part in the 2021 Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN on Sunday 21 November 2021 can #RunTheirCity in support of the following five local charities: Die Burger Kinderfonds, Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Cotlands, help2read and Reach for a Dream.
Started in 1957, Die Burger Kinderfonds is a non-profit organisation that assists children in the community that are in need of trauma counselling. “It is great news that Absa is now the title sponsor of the RUN YOUR CITY Series,” says Suzaan Potgieter, Die Burger Kinderfonds Co-ordinator. “With Absa’s support the series is guaranteed to reach new heights. We have been a charity for such a long time, it’s a great honour. We really appreciate the support that we’ve received from the series and the runners. We wish all runners a wonderful event. Without you there would be no event and us, as charities, would not be able to be part of it. So thank you!” For more information please visit: https://www.facebook.com/burgerkinderfonds
Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa and is the oldest animal welfare organisation in the country. A registered non-profit organisation and Public Benefit Organisation, the society relies on the support of concerned individuals and corporates to continue operating. “It’s wonderful to see the spirit of Africanacity supporting the tenacious individuals who strive for their personal best and do so in a way that changes the lives of the vulnerable,” says Belinda Abraham, The Cape of Good Hope SPCA Spokesperson. “It is great that people can come together again, after all this time apart, to unite in a shared passion. It truly is a gift that will never be taken for granted again. We are fast approaching the time of year when the SPCA deals with a massive influx of stray and unwanted animals. As we shift into crisis mode, we are thankful for the support of those who by taking part in the RUN YOUR CITY Series, will be running to our rescue by helping us to feed, shelter and provide veterinary treatments for the animals who will be admitted to our facilities. We are extremely thankful for the opportunity to benefit from this event which will enable us to do more for animals this festive season.” For more information please visit: www.capespca.co.za
Cotlands is a registered non-profit early childhood development organisation with a rich heritage of 85 years of experience in serving young, vulnerable children. Cotlands’ vision is to see children thrive in their pre-school years by increasing their access to play-based early learning opportunities. “We are excited that the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN will be an actual race this year,” says Dr Monica Stach, Cotlands Chief Executive Officer. “Runners will once again get the opportunity to experience the great atmosphere and camaraderie, while encouraging one another along the route. Absa’s brand attitude is to be brave, passionate, and ready which is what we believe our runners will be on race day as they run and support various causes to make a difference in their society. Cotlands is proud to be associated with such a great fitness event where anyone and everyone can do good and run for a purpose to support a worthy cause.” For further information on Cotlands please visit: www.cotlands.org
A non-profit organisation, help2read’s mission is to erase illiteracy in South Africa’s disadvantaged communities, one literacy lesson at a time. Since the organisation’s first one-on-one reading session in 2006, help2read has worked in over 400 schools and reached 23 000 children through their literacy programmes. “It is wonderful that we are slowly getting back to normal,” says Nikki Knowler, Help2read Business Development Manager. “An actual event held in a safe way will be a real treat! We are extremely excited to be a charity of the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN. We are honoured to have been selected as it gives us an amazing opportunity to raise awareness for literacy development in South Africa. The RUN YOUR CITY Series celebrates South Africa’s big cities and we are proud to be able to join in on the fun. To all the runners, thank you for your support! Be safe and enjoy the event.” For more information on help2read please visit: www.help2read.org
Established in 1988, Reach For A Dream seeks to inspire hope and help children to believe in the power of dreams. “It is always exciting to welcome a new sponsor on board, especially one that wishes to partner with an event that highlights the beautiful cities that we have in SA,” says Kerry Donkin, Reach For A Dream Foundation Regional Manager. “Absa is a well known bank and we are excited to have them as part of this wonderful series. We are extremely excited to be joining our community once again for an ‘actual’ CITYRUN in Cape Town. We have missed engaging with the participants of the event and cannot wait to see you all out on the road. Over the years the funds raised through our partnership with the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN has helped to fulfil dreams for children with life threatening illnesses. We are privileged to be a part of such a beautiful series, that highlights and supports local charities.” For further information on Reach For a Dream please visit: www.reachforadream.org.za
